The Dream Spinner...

Amongst the hordes of faces, somewhere in a busy street of Inner circle, Connaught Place, the Capital’s premier commercial district……a wrinkled but clean shaven face, aged around 70 trips across the sun, barely able to walk, with shirt neatly tucked-in caught my eye…..Alas he was a salesman,A salesman at this age??? I wondered …
With puppets worn into hand, and making comic actions,he was trying to entice young childrens to him so that he can eke out some money by selling toys
Moments later he fumbled, took the support of pillar and sat on the ground.People came, people went, many of them offered him help.Undaunted,he declined their help.
In the meanwhile he kept on trying to get back on his feet to resume his duties but he couldn’t.
Some people were sympathetic enough to buy those puppets for a charge of 40Rs…hoping it would help that old man,Pity those people,I still wonder what would they do with it..
What is this old man upto??I asked my friend, she too seemed clueless..
Unable to bear it any longer,we went towards him and said
“Sir,aapse khada nahi hua jaa raha aap tab bhi zid kar rahe hai ki ye sab bechna hai, paise se zyada bhi kuch hota hai…aap kisi ki bhi nahi sun rahe, apni sehat to dekho, aap chahe to hum aapko kahi chhod de”….
And then he spoke-
“beta,m the only earning member of my family,If I put my health first, then who will put their health first,I just come here for 1 hour, jitna sale ho jaata hai wo bonus hai,but I cant help it,please aap meri chinta chhod dijiye, bhagwan aapko khush rakhe, main apna dhyan rakhunga”…….
We offered him to sell his puppets by demonstrating ourselves while he just watched,he refused again..Height of adamancy?????or height of self respect…….As a gratitude we too bought two pieces of that useless puppets that he was selling…
I woke up yesterday with me hallucinated of this man…..I went again to CP that day,to find him at same place, same time....
What was bizarre about that run of the mill man that he crawled his way upto my dreams? It really gives pleasure to work hard for achieving little dreams, but this act surely was an exception
Where does the average people like him go ???.....Nowhere …..such people are the backbone of the country, who achieve nothing, but serve as an inspiration to others. The middle class culture is here to stay
Lack of money doesn’t mean lack of grace….!!!!Was he selling the Puppets to realise his dreams????? Was he daring to Realize his Dreams at this age and in such a non blissful way????.....
Perhaps dreams are eternal......or perhaps I will have to live with this question forever….!!!
